Children’s Residential Support Worker – Learning Disabilities

Location: Loughborough, Leicestershire
Salary: £13.50 per hour (plus sleep-in payments where applicable)

About the Role

We are seeking caring, dedicated, and enthusiastic Children’s Residential Support Workers to join our team supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and additional needs in a residential setting.

A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare is preferred; however, candidates with relevant experience and a willingness to work towards the qualification are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Care and Support

* Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in line with their individual care plans.
* Build positive and trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and development.
* Support children with learning disabilities, autism, communication difficulties, and additional needs.
* Assist with personal care where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
* Encourage independence, life skills, and social development.
* Support children to access education, recreational activities, and community opportunities.

Safeguarding and Welfare

* Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
* Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns appropriately.
* Support children who may present behaviours of concern using positive and therapeutic approaches.
* Act as a positive role model and maintain professional boundaries.

Residential Duties

* Help create a warm, welcoming, and homely environment.
* Support daily routines, appointments, activities, and household tasks.
* Complete accurate records, daily logs, incident reports, and other documentation.
* Contribute to the effective day-to-day running of the home.

Team Working

* Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals.
* Attend team meetings, training, supervision, and review meetings.
* Contribute to care planning and risk assessments.

Person Specification

Essential

* Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals.
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins where required.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Caring, resilient, and committed to improving outcomes for children and young people.

Desirable

* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
* Experience working within a children’s residential home.
* Experience supporting children with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs.
* Knowledge of person-centred and therapeutic approaches.
* Full UK driving licence.
